Tensions are rising among the Bakgatla Ba Ga Mmanaana tribal chiefs, as Acting Kgosi Oscar Mosielele contemplates legal action against his older brother and substantive Kgosi, Kgabosetso Mosielele, over the multi-million Pula Ipelego Trust.
At a kgotla meeting on Friday, Kgosi Oscar revealed that former President Mokgweetsi Masisi has driven a wedge between him and Kgosi Kgabosetso, shaking the foundations of the royal court and dividing the Mosielele ruling house all the way down to the cadet royal families and the Morafe.
Though he avoided naming names, Kgosi Oscar traced the conflict back to 2016, when Masisi and his ally, Moshupa Sub-District Council Deputy Chairperson Motlhatlusi Kelobang, established the Ipelego Trust. After being invited to join, Kgosi Oscar objected to certain terms in its formation. When he raised these concerns, Masisi dismissed him, choosing instead to deal directly with his older brother.
