The Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) is gearing up to inject a substantial P950 million into Botswana’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) during the 2026/27 financial year, a move that promises to reshape the landscape of citizen economic participation. This planned funding round is not just a number; it signals a strategic leap toward empowering citizen-owned businesses, bolstering job creation, and nurturing economic diversification in a country where MSMEs form the backbone of growth and innovation.

In the current financial year alone, ending March 31, CEDA has already disbursed P230 million to 586 MSMEs, a clear testament to the agency’s commitment to sustaining and expanding the entrepreneurial ecosystem. This investment has translated into the creation of 744 new jobs and the preservation of 835 existing ones, underscoring the role of MSMEs as vital engines of employment. The impact is tangible: strengthening enterprises that are often overlooked yet form the heartbeat of local economies.
