STRUIZENDAM PRIMARY SCHOOL JOINS THE DIGITAL ECONOMY

On Friday 24 February 2025, Struizendam Primary School received from Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) a state-of-the-art computer laboratory to enhance its learning environment.

The newly built computer laboratory that cost P2, 834, 461.58 to construct and equip, is complete with Local Area Network, 40 student tablets, 10Mbps dedicated Internet connectivity and an IT Officer for support and maintenace as well as to facilitate digital literacy among the school community.

Officiating during the official handover ceremony, Hon. Shawn Ntlhaile, Assistant Minister of Communications and Innovation who performed the handover on behalf of the Minister, Hon. David Tshere said;

β€œThrough this ICT laboratory, we are opening doors to countless opportunities for these young learners. The facility will serve as a hub of creativity, innovation, and learning, where students will not only acquire essential digital skills but also develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration abilities that are vital in today’s world”.

Hon. Ntlhaile added that the initiative dovetailed with the Millenium Development Goal No.2 on Achieving Universal Primary Education which required the Botswana primary schools education to evolve to be relevant to the 21st century learners.

Speaking during the occasion, Ms. Lenah Babaile, Sturizendan Primary School head, praised the relationship the school had with BOCRA which followed adoption of the school in 2015.Β  She said that BOCRA supported the school for such important activities, as study camps, educational excursions, prize giving ceremonies and even uniform items such as school shoes.

Mr. Martin Mokgware, BOCRA Chief Executive added his voice by highlighting that the school was adopted following the Adopt-A-School initiative.Β  He underlined that in providing the facility, BOCRA intended to make a positive contribution to ICT literacy and usage of ICTs in the country by targeting the youth who are the main consumers of digital technology.

The Struizendam Primary School computer laboratory was delivered under the BOCRA Corporate Social Investment initiative that aimed at facilitating internet connectivity for primary schools to enhance education.Β  The laboratory added to similar facilities built for other primary schools including Molefe Primary School in Kopong, Ditshegwane Primary School, Molete Satellite Primary School (Goodhope District) and the four Tlokweng primary schools of Batlokwa National, Botsalano, Mafitlhakgosi, and Kgosi Kgosi, and Etsha 6 Primary School in Okavango District. More laboratories will be built for other schools around the country.
