Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) and Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) are proud to announce the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that establishes a strategic partnership to deploy advanced telecommunications infrastructure and smart technologies in BHC housing developments across Botswana. The partnership underscores the commitment of both BHC and BTC to drive digital transformation in Botswana’s housing sector, supporting the nation’s vision for a connected and technologically advanced society.
This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the delivery of modern, connected, and secure housing solutions for Botswana citizens. The partnership will see the integration of high-speed fibre optic connectivity, smart home features, and enhanced estate management systems in new and existing BHC estates, ensuring residents benefit from world-class telecommunications services and innovative smart technologies.
The key objectives of the partnership include amongst others; delivering housing developments with enhanced telecommunications services, including high-speed internet, jointly developing estates featuring smart homes tailored to various market segments and implementing a cost-sharing model for infrastructure and value-added services to ensure long-term value and improved customer experience.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, BTC Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jürgen Peschel, said the partnership reflects a shared vision to create smarter and more connected communities. “The Memorandum of Understanding between BTC and BHC represents a shared vision to create smart, connected communities that meet the needs of today’s residents while preparing for the opportunities of tomorrow.”
He added that “For BTC, this partnership is about much more than providing telecommunications infrastructure. It is about enabling possibilities. It is about ensuring that from the moment a family moves into their home, they have access to the connectivity and digital services that empower them to participate fully in Botswana’s growing digital economy,” she said.
Speaking on the partnership, Botswana Housing Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer (Acting), Professor Selinah Busang stated that “this partnership with BTC is a major milestone in our mission to provide modern, secure, and connected homes for Batswana”. He further stated that “by integrating smart technologies and robust telecommunications infrastructure, we are setting a new standard for housing developments in the country,” he said.
BTC will deploy and maintain fibre optic infrastructure in BHC estates, integrate smart technologies, and provide high-speed internet services to residents. BHC will provide access to housing development sites, ensure telecommunications infrastructure is included in housing designs, and promote smart housing solutions. Both organisations will work together on research, product development, and regular assessments to measure project success and customer satisfaction.
