Bomaid continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to building a healthier Botswana with the successful “Together for Wellness” Community Health & Wellness Day, held on Saturday, 17 May 2025 at the Dutch Reformed Church Grounds.
The event drew early risers and health-conscious individuals from across Gaborone, beginning with a spirited community walk at dawn and unfolding into a vibrant celebration of health and unity throughout the day.
Hosted in partnership with churches, healthcare providers, corporations, and local authorities, the Community Wellness Day offered a full spectrum of services and activities from free medical screenings and mental wellness education to interactive children’s play zones and local wellness exhibitions. Importantly, the event was open to the broader public, not just Bomaid members, underscoring the Fund’s dedication to inclusive and accessible health solutions for all.
Speaking at the event, Bomaid CEO Moraki Mokgosana emphasized the importance of collaborative health practices and Bomaid’s customer-led innovations through the STEPS Campaign, launched earlier this year:
“At Bomaid, we believe your health is a shared responsibility. Through our STEPS campaign, which responds directly to our customer’s needs, we are prioritising what matters most.
S – Unlimited Doctor and Specialist Visits
T – Alignment with Ministry of Health regulations, particularly HIV Testing for expectant mothers
E – Elderly care enhancements including fall risk functional assessments and pneumococcal vaccinations
P – Post-hospitalisation care for full recovery
S – Support services and improved self-service platforms for ease and convenience
Don’t wait until you’re unwell. Take the step. Ask the question. Get the check-up. Start the walk. Because good health isn’t an accident, t’s a journey.”
He continued, “The beauty of this day is that the offerings were not limited to Bomaid customers. They were open to all. That’s the Botswana we want to build, one where good health is accessible, inclusive, and informed.”
Reverend Thapelo Boikanyo, Lead Pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church, also addressed the gathering and said:
“When the church, medical community, and corporate sector walk hand in hand, we demonstrate to our congregations and communities that wellness is not just physical, it’s spiritual, emotional, and communal. Together, we uplift.”
Looking ahead, Bomaid is strengthening its stakeholder engagement efforts through upcoming platforms such as the Provider Pitso, scheduled for 6 June 2025; a forum aimed at reinforcing Bomaid’s drive to promote preventative care, improve products and services, and educate healthcare providers. The Pitso will delve into the breadth and value of Bomaid’s 16 comprehensive health plans and highlight added services available through strategic partnerships, such as mental health helplines and chronic disease support, ensuring every customer has access to informed healthcare choices.
Bomaid’s collaboration with Mmila Fund Administrators will also continue the wellness dialogue through the upcoming Mmila Wealth & Wellness Pitso, to be held on 23 May 2025, shifting focus from immediate health interventions to long-term financial literacy and wellness. Topics such as estate planning, retirement, and financial security will be explored in tandem with physical well-being, reinforcing that true wellness is multi-dimensional. Another noteworthy sponsorship is of the 2nd Botswana Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists conference and Vogue dental conference on May 23 and 24th.
Bomaid is also sponsoring the Chobe Enclave Conservation Trust Sports Tournament on June 13 which brings together learners from Satau, Parakarungu, Kachikau, Kavimba, and Mabele villages.
As Botswana’s most comprehensive medical aid provider, Bomaid continues to champion health by empowering individuals and communities to take proactive steps toward a more resilient, informed, and healthier nation.
