Bank Gaborone announced today that Olebile Makhupe will step down from her role as Managing Director of the Bank to pursue other strategic interests and priorities.
Her resignation was acknowledged at the Board meeting held on 28 May 2026, and she will leave the Bank on 31 August 2026. Over the coming months, she will focus on the orderly handover of her responsibilities to support a smooth transition.
“Since joining Bank Gaborone in February 2023, Makhupe has been a valued member of the Bank’s Executive Management Committee and has provided steady leadership during an important period for both Bank Gaborone and the broader Botswana operating environment. On behalf of the Board of Bank Gaborone, I would like to thank her for her contribution, professionalism and commitment, and wishes her well in her future endeavours”, said Christo de Vries, Chairperson of the Board.
To ensure continuity and stability, the Bank announced that an interim Acting MD for Bank Gaborone will be announced soon. The Bank has commenced a formal recruitment process for a permanent appointment
