Al Ahly, the reigning champions of the Egyptian Premier League, have parted ways with Spanish manager José Riveiro. The club made the announcement on Sunday, ending his tenure after he coached only seven matches.

José Riveiro departed from Orlando Pirates following a highly successful three-year period. During his time there, he secured five domestic cups, finished as league runner-up three consecutive times, and led the team to the semi-finals of the 2024-25 CAF Champions League.

He then joined the prestigious Egyptian club Al Ahly on a two-year deal in May, with a major goal of preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. However, his time with the Cairo giants was short-lived and disappointing.

His tenure began poorly with an early exit from the Club World Cup after the team failed to win a match. This poor form continued into the Egyptian Premier League, where Al Ahly managed only one win in their first four games, leaving them in a disappointing 12th place in the standings.

As a result, the club announced on Sunday that they had mutually agreed with Riveiro to terminate his contract, ending his brief and unsuccessful spell in charge. In an official statement, Al Ahly thanked Riveiro and his staff for their efforts.
