Preparations are well underway for the much-anticipated 2026 Independence Kids Run, set to take place on 26 September 2026 in the heart of Gaborone CBD. This event celebrates Botswana’s 60th Independence Anniversary.
Following the tremendous success of the Absa Summer Kids Marathon in April 2026, which drew over 1,800 young participants from across the country, the enthusiasm for youth sports, healthy living, and community involvement is clearly growing.
The Independence Kids Run aims to build on this momentum by bringing together children, families, schools, corporate partners, and the wider community for a vibrant celebration of Botswana’s diamond jubilee. Beyond promoting physical fitness and healthy lifestyles among children, the event seeks to foster patriotism, national pride, and social inclusion through sport.
Registration is now open, and organizers encourage parents and guardians to secure spots for their children early. Preparations are progressing smoothly to ensure a safe, exciting, and memorable experience that honors this historic milestone.
Co-founder Moagi Madisa expressed confidence that this year’s event will be the largest yet. “The incredible turnout at the Absa Summer Kids Marathon showed just how passionate Botswana’s children are about sports and active living. As we mark 60 years of independence, the Independence Kids Run offers another chance to unite families, celebrate our nation’s journey, and inspire the next generation through healthy recreation,” the organizers said.
The Independence Kids Run is part of a larger program of events commemorating Botswana’s 60th Independence celebrations and is expected to attract thousands of participants and spectators to the capital. Corporate organizations, development partners, and community stakeholders are invited to support the initiative through sponsorships and partnerships as the event continues to promote child development, wellness, and national unity.
Further details about registration, race categories, entertainment, and event logistics will be announced in the coming weeks.
