The Annual Cycling event, Mokolodi Scorpion Cycle Challenge has received a staggering P60 000 sponsorship from Botswana Insurance Company.

This year’s even it scheduled to take place on the 22nd September at the Mokolodi Nature Reserve and cylcits from across the region are epected to participate. The event has different categories namely the 56KM, 36KM, 10KM race routes within the nature reserve, as well as 5KM social walk.

When addressing members of the media in Gaborone on Tuesday, BIC Executive Head of Sales and Marketing William Surmon said ‘’we have always had keen interest in supporting local sporting activities as they promote health and fitness. As an insurance company we are strong advocates of good health and developing the community. So this sponsorship, we believe will play an important role in executing our mandate’’

He further noted that sporting codes that lack sponsorship tend to agonize, leading to athletes losing hope in seeing the sporting code excel to greater heights. Surmon underlined that the sponsorship strives to revamp cycling in the country. For his part, Gaborone Cycling Club Chairman Seamus O Neil expressed gratitude saying the monies will contribute immensely to the success of the event. He however urged other corporates to follow suit, saying through collaborative efforts, the cycling code can be elevated to greater heights.
