Publishing Date : 02 September, 2019

Local traditional powerhouse, KhoiSan group have dropped a new hit single dubbed ‘Sananapo.’ The duo have released the single prior to their upcoming album which is to hit the music shelves very soon.

The song was released on August 22, and has already played on Duma FM and Gabz FM. Retrieved from native traditional stories, ‘Sananapo’ talks sternly on relationships. Producer of KhoiSan, Suffocate, explained to WeekendLife that the song was rated the most trending song in Botswana on RB2 FM and on BW trends with Mc Joey. Currently the song is sitting at number one out of ten songs. “Sananapo started off not as an official song but just a freestyle that one KhoiSan member did and posted the video on Facebook. The video, reached over 25 000 views within 24 hours of its release and was trending on all social media platforms. That's when a decision was made to record the song and released as an audio,” he said.

He also explained that the instrumental was purchased on Young OG Beats’ website, who hails from Madagascar, recording then took place here in Botswana. “Immediately the song was released, it trended again for the second time. We can only thank God and we are very excited as this release came at the right time; when we were about to close down the KhoiSan album and focus on the Khoisan Goes Live event which is on the 1st  of November, at Maitisong Theatre,” he said. The duo being; Thabang Rasefako and Oratile Kofa, are said to have defined their style to exude a very modern sound with undertones that play to their traditional influences. KhoiSan, comes across slightly cheeky yet radiates urban confidence.

Khoisan will be performing at the GIMC Jazz Festival, they are also preparing for their very own first event dubbed ‘KhoiSan Goes Live’, which they promise to deliver a stellar perfomance. The crew promises people that an album is on its way and features artists likes of Bekezela from South Africa, Double Up and Dipstrada just to mention a few. “They also have a song coming in a weeks’ time with DJ Chrispin called ‘Madlozi’, which translates to ancestors. The song was produced by DJ Chrispin and Tech Da Drum. ‘We are very excited about this song too, because it shows that they are out of their comfort zone. We can’t wait,” he said. Khoisan is a group originally put together by the multi-award winner and producer, Suffocate, who signed them to his award winning record label after their victorious win from the auditions the record label held in 2018.

Their music is a fusion of soul, Borankana, Phathisi, Tsutsube, and other Tswana traditional dance patterns; Afro Jazz and Afro pop. The group endeavors to fuse their diverse and beautiful voices to produce what can only be described as a melodic and harmonious yield.
