Rollers chase Galaxy’s Da Costa

Publishing Date : 07 May, 2019

Township Rollers is following with keen interest the developments surrounding the future of Jwaneng Galaxy coach Miguel Da Costa, with BTC Premiership defending champions reportedly eager for his services.

Mascom Top 8 champions Jwaneng Galaxy are yet to negotiate a new deal with their Portuguese gaffer despite his contracted coming to end at the close of the current season. The 38 year-old tactician who penned down a one-year deal with the Jwaneng based club from Vipers Sports Club of Uganda has attracted the interest of other clubs elsewhere including Township Rollers.

Despite Township Rollers still at the summit of the league table, coach Rudolph Zapata has brought mixed feelings to the club faithful. The club experienced lacklustre performance in a number of games under his tutelage, including failing to retain the Mascom Top 8 cup this season. The Blues believes Da Costa who has proved his mettle since his arrival and the Jwaneng based outfit. Not only has Da Costa won the Mascom Top 8 cup, the Portuguese has also given Rollers the run for its money in the current BTC Premiership campaign.

WeekendSport has established that it is not coach Da Costa who is under the radar of the Jagdish Shah project, it is reported that Anthony Gouws who was arguably the best goalkeeper in the last two seasons and also Gilbert Baruti are on the wanted list of Mapalastina.
Da Costa steered Galaxy to win their second Mascom Top 8 after defeating Gaborone United 2-0 in the final held at Francistown in March. The club conceded only one goal in five games, scoring 8 goals en route victory.

Since beginning his reign for the mining town giant, the Portuguese coach has played 27 league games, winning 15 drawing and losing only two games. Galaxy suffered defeats against Orapa United and Police XI, encounters in which Da Costa was serving a suspension.
Da Costa man is currently occupying number two spot on the BTC Premiership log standings with 60 points, just a point behind Township Rollers, with two games to spare. Galaxy has scored 53 goals, conceded the least number of goals being 16 goals with a goal difference of 37.

“The coach has made it clear that his contract should be discussed based on the results of all the games, so the negotiations will start after the last game of the league,” said PRO of Galaxy Tankiso Morake. Morake told WeekendSport that the team is focused and they will not give up till the last whistle on the last game of the BTC Premiership as they believe they do stand a chance.
