Kavazovic renews Boy interest

Publishing Date : 08 April, 2019

Township Rollers will have a reason to feel distraught following fresh information that South African outfit Freestate Stars are preparing a bid for midfielder Segolame Boy.

Reports state that Nikola Kavazovic, former Rollers coach, is trying to convince his new club Freestate Stars and its hierarchy to fund a move for the Botswana international. He has already negotiated his way into the team signing defender Simisani Mathumo who is also a former Rollers player. Ea lla Koto have made their move for their long-time target and the enterprising midfielder is said to be determined to complete the transfer. He wants to play football that heavily pays, which Rollers cannot offer and Stars allure will certainly prove too much to stay from.

It is believed that Boy recognises Stars as one of the SA’s leading clubs, capable of competing for the grandest prizes. In the event of leaving Rollers, whom he joined from Miscellaneous, he has always dreamt of furthering his career abroad. Boy has enjoyed his years at Rollers, where he is feted by the supporters, but feels that the time is right to move on. It is impossible to dispute the value and service that he has given to the club, with the last two seasons being his best.

Boy, has over the years, caught the interest of many South African clubs but Rollers had always felt uncomfortable to release him. However, those close to developments mention that Boy is yet to be shocked by the stubborn position held by Rollers management; the log leaders will surely hate losing such a prized possession without finding a proper replacement. The Rollers’ management has a reputation of being tough negotiators but for Boy, the offer from Stars is one that should be impossible to refuse.

Again, the situation is turning ugly for Rollers more because they are now set to lose the player on a ‘free transfer route.’  Those close to Boy cannot believe that Rollers will be blocking what could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a rare talent which has unfortunately only ever flattered to deceive. It is believed that Rollers is merely maintaining that their prized asset is not for sale. In all essence, Boy is worth to Rudolph Zapata’s team is obvious but  Boy who hails from Serowe might as well be feeling that there comes a point when it is unfair to hold somebody ransom because of loyalty.

When approached for comment, Rollers media liaison Phemepheretlhe Pheto distanced the club from any information linking Boy to Freestate Stars. He however accepted that Boy’s contract is coming to an end this season. “Rollers has not received any official communication regarding Boy’s move to Freestate. But I can confirm that his contract expires this season,” he shared.
