GetBucks Botswana through their Foundation MyBucks last week donated Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) revision textbooks, attainment test textbooks and learning aids worth P100 000 to Lapologang Primary School.

This follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) they signed sometime this year with the school where they agreed to adopt the school for the next three years. The MyBucks Foundation was born from the belief that everyone deserves to live their best life and that as a leading digital bank and FinTech company, have a social responsibility to do good in the communities in which they operate.

MyBucks Foundation seeks to strategically achieve its CSI mission through five focus areas namely – MyEducation, MyTech, MyLife, MyFuture and WeCommit – a crowdfunding initiative. GetBucks Botswana Managing Director Marthin de Kock when officiating at the event said their presence in Selibe Phikwe and Lapologa Primary School allows them to focus on three broader values; MyEducation which involves teaching, intriguing and inspiring the use of technology to teach financial education.

MyLife, which focuses on poverty alleviation through feeding schemes and ensuring that children have books to learn from and classrooms to learn in. WeCommit, which focuses on crowd funding solutions to fund various projects within the platforms of empowerment and within other uplifting spaces.

He also highlighted that with the books donated, they are looking forward to improved academic results, following the impressive set in previous exams. “It is our mandate as GetBucks Botswana to contribute to the educational improvements in a knowledge economy as we believe that these children are our future leaders,” said De Kock.

He said they strive to be the fabric of community growth and development. He is of the view that the MyBucks Foundation together with GetBucks take youth development and education seriously. “Selebi Phikwe youth are the strength of our future in the region. Investing in their skills and potential is critical for this region’s economic growth in a knowledgeable economy,” alluded de Kock.

When receiving the donation on behalf of the school, the Head Master, Inspector Makhura said, it is an honor that GetBucks has donated text books and learning aids to the school. “It is humbling to see companies that are dedicated to aid schools to enhance government efforts. We aim to be the top academic achievers in the region and with textbooks and learning aides donated, it will boost the school to achieve even better results than last year,” he said.

Some parents attending the event expressed their gratitude. “Indeed it takes a village to raise a child, that’s why we became witnesses of today’s activities,” said one parent. During this past winter GetBucks also donated winter school uniforms, which parents were more thankful for and the same company came again to donate books and learning aids. They said no amount of words could express the joy and gratitude they have towards Martin de Kock and his team.
