Publishing Date : 07 August, 2018

The annual Mokoto Wa Lesoso cultural event to be held in Shoshong will this year feature legendary group, Matsieng as the main headliners. This event is expected to act as a spring board for the Matsiweng reunuion, which will see the famous Ditiro Leero feature alongside his former colleagues.

Organized by Makgobokane Club, the idea is to promote culture and tourism in the constituency, priding themselves of their cultural heritages, tradition and being able to market themselves internationally. The event is an initiative by the youth of Shoshong though a grouping known as Makgobokane social club, which was benchmarked from Molepolole’s annual Dithubaruba of the Bakwena. Makgobokane is aimed at helping the needy and giving back to the communities of Shoshong and surrounding villages.

To diversify their mandate, the social club thas since assessed their village, on what they can do to promote culture, bringing people together to embrace their culture as the Bangwato of Shoshong thus the birth of Mokoto Wa Lesoso annual food and cultural event. The event organizers said they have also agreed in principle with Bahurutshe ba Manyana’s Kgosi Kebinatshwene Mosielele to officiate at the cultural event which will be held on September 1st, 2018 at Shoshong. They have also brought the legendary group Matsieng to headline the event.

Founded in 2005, Matsieng is a Setswana traditional music trio from Gaborone, Botswana. There are known for their explicit lyrics which earned them recognition around the country Botswana. They burst into the scene with their 2005 festive season album called ‘Semakaleng’. Their album ‘Setswana Sa Borre’ earned them a mark in the local music industry. It topped the local charts and enjoyed airplay in the neighboring South Africa. The group has toured Malaysia and South Africa in the past.

The group then split at its peak. At some point they tried solo albums but it didn’t work out until last year when they reunited with Ditiro Leero and announced their reunion. Many Batswana celebrated the move and are looking forward to see them perform on stage together.
Ditiro Leero remains a creative member of the group who commands deep vocabulary of the Setswana language. He remains the backbone behind the group since it proved to be difficult to penetrate the market again without him.
