Mmina sets sights on acting after Catching Feelings

Paris based Motswana model and actress, Mmina Gaebonwe says landing a role in Catching Feelings, a South African based romantic comedy has ignited in her a deeper passion for acting such that she decided since its production, to pursue acting. Catching Feelings is currently being aired on Netflix.  

In an interview with Weekendlife, the Maun born Gaebonwe revealed that she would one day love to act on a Peter Jackson project. “That was the day I decided to pursue acting. I’d love to do a Peter Jackson movie. He is my absolute favorite director,” she said.
Gaebolwe said she was recommended by a friend to the romantic comedy creators. “A director of photography friend of mine recommended me. I actually didn’t get to audition I just got my prescription the previous week and had to learn it and familiarize myself with it and show up on set,” she said.

Further, she was surprised that the movie director, Kagiso Lediga, who rated her as being ‘a natural’. Recently she had shared with her fans on Facebook about her excitement about being in the movie. “Catching Feelings is finally on Netflix. Feeling so blessed that my first movie is on Netflix,” Gaebonwe stated. Gaebonwe further cited that her zeal and determination has allowed her to tap to her fullest potential in foreign land.

“I need to be challenged, I need new ideas and new people and new ways of thinking, this is why I am always moving. I might move to Spain after or Germany. Courage and a desire to create more art have made me what I am today,” she highlighted. Gaebonwe was born and raised in Maun. She started modelling at the age of 16, and by 18 she had become the first winner of ‘Gemstones Model Search’ competition and was on her way to New York to work with the biggest agencies in the world, Wilhelmina Model Agency.

There after she relocated to Cape Town in South Africa where she continued her career in modelling with Outlaws Model Agency. She was repeatedly featured in magazines like Marie Claire Magazine, Seventeen Magazine, Destiny Magazine, and Glamour Magazine. She also did fashion shows in New York and South Africa. She currently owns and runs EmIvy Model and Talent Management, a company based in Gaborone, with a global market.

Catching Feelings is a dark romantic comedy that premiered in South Africa this year. It was written, directed and produced by veteran comedian and actor, Lediga. It is also officially available on Netflix. It was released in March 9 and on May 18, the streaming service gave viewers a chance to catch up on the film.

It centres on academic and author, Max, played by Lediga and his wife, Sam played by Pearl Thusi, who is a journalist. The couple is living on the brink of being broke because they go out a lot and drink way too much. Max also has trust issues and these are heightened when revered author, Heiner, played by Andrew Buckland, has to suddenly move in with the pair.
