50 nominees for Annual Gospel Awards

Publishing Date : 04 July, 2018

Organisers of the upcoming Annual Gospel Awards (AGA), which are slated for August 18, unveiled the nominees this week Tuesday at Ba Isago Convention Hall. The voting lines opened on Wednesday.

AGA is a platform created to award talent amongst gospel artists in Botswana. The awards which are oraganised by gospel legends Phempheretlhe Bafana Pheto and Joel Rebaone Keitumele, are aimed at recognizing excellence within the gospel industry. The organisers believe in, and cherish the well identified market which awaits artists’ penetration. Ernest Seleke who is assigned as a judge for the awards, alongside Seabe Raditladi and Daniel Mogami explained that when judging the contestants’ work they considered several things that exude excellence in their craft.

“We were looking at how artist package their product and if its eye catching and if there is a touch of creativity in their product including audio quality. We also judged looking at the state of the audio. Some of the music which was submitted was not mastered at all,” Seleke explained. He further highlighted that they looked at the lyrical content and the message that was being relayed to people as well as the entertainment part of it.

“Artists who want to use nasal tone in their music should locate and identify experts to teach them on how to use it. Artists should also take time before going to record to avoid mistakes,” Seleke advised. The organisers have partnered with Botswana Television. The awards are sponsored by Ba Isago, VIB, Be Mobile, Orange, Mascom, IIP which will be assisting with the production, and BIFM which will be awarding P1000 to every winner of each category will be run and staged at a whopping P650 000 budget. Nominees will be aired on BTV on July 1 until August 16 and the public will be voting for their favourite nominee.
