BFA cracks the whip

Following the disgraceful Tuesday game between league leaders, Township Rollers and Francistown giants, TAFIC, Botswana Football Association (BFA) has moved swiftly to suspend all perpetrators who were given red- cards during the game.

BFA in conjunction with the Botswana Premier League (BPL) say it treats issues of violence with the seriousness it deserves, banking on the constitution, on article 12.1. The said article reads, “Any player or official that is reported to have been involved in any form of violence shall be automatically suspended from all BFA activities forthwith pending disciplinary hearing.”  Although the length this investigation is to take is not known, both teams will suffer devastating consequences without their trusted charges present.

ROLLERS WITHOUT FORWARDS

Mthokozisi Msomi

Msomi returned to the Rollers starting line up in two consecutive games. His second goal of the season came against ailing Uniao Flamengo Santos. To this date the striker has scored only 2 goals in all games. But Msomi’s second goal was seen to be rejuvenating the former Jomo Cosmos striker. Some Rollers fans had described Msomi as a warrior, but his suspension now means Rollers has no likely replacement for him, especially that Jerome Ramatlhakwana  is no longer with the club.  The development might now force Rollers’ coach to tinker with his tactics and slot in Edwin Moalosi as a false 9.

Joel Mogorosi

Equally tricky to replace will be assistant captain Joel Mogorosi. The former Mochudi Centre Chiefs speedy winger had just returned from a three match ban after pleading guilty for insulting a match official. But Mogorosi  has won more Premier League points since the start of last season than any other player and, after helping  the team coached by Mogomotsi Mpote to the top spot last season,  he has been integral to Rollers' title charge this term.

Mogorosi has scored 4 goals and was a leading scorer of the club and the league before serving his suspension. The former Zebras winger should have ranked among the Premier League's top five players for goals and assists if these categories were seriously assessed.  He appears to have added extra speed and fast acting in Rollers’ front line attack. So how do you replace Rollers Chief attacker? Options are available in this case with Galabgwe Moyana available to play a telling role after suffering a long injury. More emphasis now is on the two legged Mascom Top 8 tier against Jwaneng Galaxy.

HOW WILL TAFIC BE AFFECTED?

The Francistown based outfit is still enjoying its first season in the elite league after spending a torrid time at the lower division. The suspension means defender Samuel Phiri is out of action for an unknown period of time. Also joining him on the sidelines is head coach Rapelang ‘Raizor’ Tsatsilebe.

Prior to his fall, Tsatsilebe hosted Extension Gunners at Francistown where he won by a solitary strike and had sharpened a young side that looked dangerous on attack. Tafic has 19 points enjoying a healthy life out of the relegation quagmire. They occupy the 11th spot, and judging by the previous play, the team was oiled to survive relegation. Without Tsatsilebe, it is now difficult to predict the survival chances of the red and white army.

Tsatsilebe, a Motswana mentor who has survived a second season syndrome with Black Forest looked exactly the type and mould Tafic had wanted from a coach. The psychology of the team will now be affected for the unknown period of time. Tsatsilebe wielded power than brought togetherness at the premier league rookies.
