Orapa United targets GU star

Publishing Date : 25 December, 2017

Gaborone United’s influential player Kabelo Seakanyeng might be heading to Orapa United in the January transfer window unless The Reds negotiate and renew his contract to keep him for a few more seasons.

Seakanyeng, also a Zebras impressive midfielder is said to have caught the eye of Orapa United caretaker coach, Daniel Nare.  The speedy winger has a contract with the Gaborone club, but sources say it is about to expire. The Ostriches have made a move for their long-time target and the enterprising midfielder is said to be determined to complete the transfer. He wants to play football that pays, which Gaborone United cannot offer and the allure of Orapa will certainly prove hard to turn down.

It is believed that Seakanyeng recognises Orapa United as one of the country's leading clubs, capable of competing for the grandest prizes. In the event he leaves GU, whom he joined from BDF XI, he has always dreamt of playing for a rich paying club. He has enjoyed his years at both GU and BDF XI, where he is feted by the supporters, but feels that the time is right to move on. It is impossible to dispute the value and service that he has given to the club, with last season being his best. At the close of last year, he was in Rollers’ wanted list, but because he was contracted with GU, it was a little bit difficult to prize him away.

However, those close to developments say that Seakanyeng is yet to be officially contacted by Orapa.  GU will surely hate losing such a prized possession to their emerging rivals. The GU management has a reputation of being tough negotiators but for Seasenyeng, the offer from Orapa United is one that should be impossible to refuse.

Given the current conditions at GU, those close to Seakanyeng believe that GU is blocking what could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a rare talent. It is believed that GU is merely maintaining that their prized asset is not for sale, particularly to Orapa or Rollers. In all essence, Seakanyeng’s worth to Rudolph Zapata’s team is obvious but the former BDF employee might soon feel that the time has come for him to no longer be held to the terms of his contract.

However, the situation is not explosive and it is believed that Seakanyeng will take it easy going into the Christmas break. Seakanyeng is apparently suffering from a glute muscle problem, which has restricted him in the middle of the season, but it has come to seem slightly convenient as he has been in no frame of mind to play. In his place, youngster Obonye Maome has been doing an impressive job, particularly in the Mascom Top 8 tournament.

“We will report back on the third of January and I'm hoping to sign 3 players if possible. We need a right winger, top man and an anchor man those are the 3 positions that need re-enforcement,” Nare was quoted as saying. GU seems to be breaking a sweat over persistent questions about Seakanyeng ’s future, and they have since stuck to the position that he is not available for business; repeatedly stating that it is impossible for a deal to be struck with a rival club.
