Drago, Mpote save the day for Rollers

Publishing Date : 27 November, 2017

Township Rollers’ technical team has reportedly revealed that the duo of Dragojlo Stanojlović and Mogomotsi Mpote’s brains saved the team a precious point in an emotive match against determined Orapa United on Monday evening at Lobatse Sports Complex.

The Ostriches as they are known, at the end of 90 nail biting minutes, became the first team this season to steal a point from the otherwise marauding Jagdish Shah project.  As of going to recess, Orapa United  led by Daniel Nare looked set to humble Rollers to their first defeat, but the auspicious brains of Drago, the club’s technical director together with Teenage Mpote who is the assistant to Nikola Kavazovic  reportedly proposed tactical changes that immediately yielded  positive results.

Mpote is reported to have maintained his stand that he believed in tactical approaches that catered for strikers. On the day, Rollers relied on a false 9 approach, a strategy that does not include an outright striker on the field.  Tricky forward Edwin Moalosi was used as an attacker but could not penetrate United’s resolute defence marshaled by club captain Thabang Mosige- at least for the entire 45 minutes.

But returning from break, the duo‘s message appears to have been given first priority as two strikers were immediately employed.  Jerome Ramatlhakwane and Mthokozisi Msomi were thrown into the deep end, and the results changed 15 minutes into the second half.
This leaked information from Rollers suggests that Kavazovic is surrounded by trusted lieutenants who understand Botswana football to the maximum. But this begs a question of how long these two are going to continue to rescue the seemingly confused head coach.

Reports continue to crackle out that the coach is sometimes stubborn and can fatly refuse to take advice.  As things stand, two players have been given new roles, and those close to the team argue that this has hurt their rhythm. Lemponye Tshireletso, a known impressive winger is playing more in the central midfield while Segolame Boy often times drifts on either sides of the field as a default winger.

However, those who believe in Kavazovic are quick to defend him; and argue that all coaches the world over have liberty to field players where they see necessary.  They argue that it is Kavazovic ‘s strategy that has given Rollers 8 clear wins. No any other coach in the country has achieved this feat.
