Publishing Date : 30 October, 2017

Immediately after his unveiling as the BTC brand ambassador last week, rumours flew thick and thin that the controversial rapper ATI will pocket P 6000, 00 from BTC every month as a retainer as per his 12 months contract.

Many social commentators reacted furiously at the move, accusing the company of undermining the ATI brand. But BTC has responded swiftly rubbishing such claims as ‘ridiculous’. At the unveiling ceremony which was graced by members of the media, both parties refused to disclose the amount of sponsorship they have agreed on. When contacted for comment, an inside source close to the developments at BTC who spoke on condition of anonymity said they don’t know where the reports are coming from and the figure is ‘ridiculously low’.

The source could not however disclose the exact amount-choosing to only say, the amount the rapper will receive every month is approximately three-times the assumed amount. Last week the Ke Lekhete hit maker was unveiled as the new brand ambassador of BTC. As part of the deal, the leading artist whose hit single Khiring Khorong is a top chatter will be the face of BTC’s new summer Campaign. BTC General Manger Marketing, Pilot Yane said ATI’s appeal is the key to the relationship. “We are pleased to be welcoming ATI to the BTC family. Our partnership symbolizes our commitment as an organisation to developing and supporting the arts in Botswana,” he had said.

He further highlighted that the relationship would open doors for greater collaborations between the artist and the corporation. “The BTC brand is evolving, similarly, the ATI brand is also growing in appeal and audience, so the time is greatly opportune for us to work together”. ATI is the second artist in the country to be endorsed by a big corporate after Vee Mampeezy, who landed a deal with Orange Botswana among other companies. BTC was described as a brand on the move that will continue to find alternative channels of reaching their customers and enhancing their communication experience.

For his part, ATI said he was ecstatic to partner with BTC and that it was indeed a monumental moment in his career as an artist. “I have come a long way and have worked with my team to associate with large leverage our popularity and talents”, ATI stated. ATI’ latest album, Envelope which is due for official release is greatly anticipated by the market. He has so far enjoyed success with two singles, Poelo Morago and Khiring Khorong.
