International Beef Fest celebrates Botswana’s rich beef heritage

Publishing Date : 31 July, 2017

The township of Lobatse will once again be lively this weekend welcoming people from all corners of the country to the biggest beef festival ever in the history of Botswana. The event dubbed Lobatse International Beef Festival is also aimed at celebrating the country’s indigenous beef and promoting it to the international market juxtaposing with music and dance.

The event is a celebration of Botswana’s beef industry, a sector revered internationally because of its wholesome and organic product that over the years has been the mainstay of the economy. If you’re starved for a different experience then you’ll come down to Lobatse with your friends and family.

The annual Lobatse International Beef Fest starts today (Saturday) the 29th of July, at the Lobatse Town Park, in an event that is billed to bring the beef capital of Botswana to life through live local entertainment, good food and a family fun oriented atmosphere.
The communiqué from the event organisers indicate that, in its 5th year, the festival is a melting pot of indigenous beef based dishes that are envisioned to celebrate Botswana’s rich beef heritage. The event is a showcase of rustic 3 legged pot meats like Mokwetjepe, Mokoto, Serobe and a succulent beef braai complimented by a choice of pap or bogobe.

In an effort to serve the community in which it operates, the Lobatse International Beef Festival, this year, reduced the prices of exhibition stalls to enable small business entrepreneurs to participate and showcase.  Arts and Craft stalls are also making a debut in this year’s festival, increasing the variety of what is on offer for revellers. The line up is also reflective of the town as artists and DJs from the region were invited to be on the line up through social media.

As an ongoing Social Corporate Responsibility initiative, the Lobatse International Beef Festival is working with Lobatse Brigade and Limkokwing University students for hands on event management experience, with certificates of appreciation awarded after the event.
To hype the event, bringing in the lifestyle orientation and make it more exciting, revellers will also enjoy on stage, performances by award winning artist Vee Mampeezy, Dr Vom, Han C, Lucia Rantleru and Mafitlhakgosi to name a few as well as music from DJs Boogie Sid, Gouveiya, Sly and Lobatse locals Fenzo and Jembesoul among others. The Lobatse International Beef Fest partnered with; Letshego, Bokomo Botswana, Medical Rescue International (MRI), Master Print and the Gaborone International Music and Culture Week (GIMC) as sponsors for the event.
